If you love sweeping views, open moorland, and the chance to spot red deer in the wild, this 6-mile circular Moorland Walk through Froggatt, Curbar & White Edge is one to savour. This route blends the best of the Peak District’s rugged beauty with a well-earned pub stop along the way. Allow 2.5–3 hours.

1.Setting Off from Curbar Gap, Park at Curbar Gap car park/ Pass through the gate onto the vehicle track, walking east into open moorland.

2. Onto White Edge & Red Deer Spotting. When the track splits, take the right-hand fork, crossing Sandyford Brook. Climb the steep bank, following the dry-stone wall on your left until you reach the top. Continue north along White Edge, enjoying the wild and open moorland.

3. Follow the path along White Edge until you reach a hole in the wall. Turn left, following the disused dry-stone wall down through fields. Soon, you’ll arrive at The Grouse Inn, a charming country pub with cosy interiors and hearty food.

4. Through Haywood & Crossing to Froggatt Edge. After leaving the pub, the path leads across rolling fields, passing behind the National Trust car park at Haywood. Cross a small brook, then carefully cross the main road to pick up the path opposite. Follow the woodland track, which leads through a gate and over another brook.

5. Continue along the full length of Froggatt and Curbar Edges, where dramatic gritstone formations rise from the landscape.

6. Returning to Curbar Gap. As you reach the end of Curbar Edge, a small gate leads you back to Curbar Gap car park.
