Introducing Pretty Wood Cottage

The new name roots the cottage firmly in its surroundings, inspired by Pretty Wood, which is a short stroll from the cottages.

A New Name, A Timeless Escape

Some changes just feel right, and renaming Clarice Cottage to Pretty Wood Cottage is one of them. While “Clarice” may have held a certain elegance, it also conjured unexpected associations (Silence of the Lambs, anyone?). So, after some thought (and a little encouragement from others), I knew it was time for a change. So introducing Pretty Wood Cottage.

The new name roots the cottage firmly in its surroundings, inspired by Pretty Wood, the enchanting woodland just a short stroll from the cottages. This woodland is a haven for wildlife and a delight to wander through in any season. In the summer months, it provides a cool, leafy canopy, while autumn and winter reveal stunning, far-reaching views. A bridleway runs through Pretty Wood, leading you down to a quiet, closed road where you can branch off towards Grindleford, Stoney Middleton, or back into Eyam.

Looking ahead, we hope to restore this beautiful woodland to its former glory, encouraging a carpet of bluebells and snowdrops to bloom once again—imagine the woodland floor bursting into life each spring.

A Cottage That Feels Like Home in Nature

Much like the woods it’s named after, Pretty Wood Cottage is peaceful, beautiful, and full of character. Its stunning views stretch across Pretty Wood and Stoke Wood, where deer can often be spotted roaming the fields (and occasionally, an adventurous sheep!).

With spacious interiors and a calming atmosphere, the cottage is designed for rest and recharge—whether you’re cosying up inside with a book by the fire or throwing open the patio doors to let in the fresh Peak District air. Like the woodland outside, Pretty Wood Cottage feels unspoiled, serene, and timeless, offering a true retreat from the everyday.

Whether you’re staying in or heading out to explore, this cottage is a sanctuary, a place to slow down, breathe deeply, and feel completely at ease in the heart of the Peak District.
